Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring 2012 – London Fashion Week

Subtle, ethereal and kind of nymph-like, yet the iconic Westwood style! The Vivienne Westwood Red Label spring 2012 presentation during London Fashion Week was all about the upcoming styles that had attitude. Using some of the style hints the designer has already gotten us used to, Vivienne Westwood demonstrated perfect tailoring and gorgeous designs, setting some of the hottest trends for the upcoming season.

Westwood is well-known for publicizing pet charities, and her new collection for spring/summer 2012 was devoted to saving the rainforest. If you think that this means eco-punk flooded collection, you are totally wrong. Moreover, the designer’s spring 2012 collection brought rather wearable pieces that could perfectly go for office wear or for a romantic date. Just close your eyes at the cotton candy hair and theatrical multi-colored faces, and you will see a wonderful line of wearable clothing alternatives that will certainly make you stand out in the new season.
Classy combinations, clearly defined proportions, subtle prints and accessories were the key features of the Vivienne Westwood Red Label spring 2012 collection. The looks presented had quite a subdued tone, mainly being classy with modern touches. Yet there could never go any Westwood show without the characteristic dramatic appeal, which was quite visible thanks to the eye makeup choices and crazy hairstyles. Although not so appropriate to wear in real life, they spiced the looks up with a certain fun and eclectic vibe.
The amazing Vivienne Westwood Red Label spring 2012 show revealed gorgeous suits and shirtdresses in pinstripes and pastels, draped dresses with cowl necks, boyfriend cardigans worn as belted dresses, oversized denim shirts, dropped-waist silk sun-dresses and certainly the Westwood peculiar plaids sprinkled on skirts and tops. Blue and yellow watercolor prints, metallic vibes, fairly abstract prints, asymmetry and pleats are some of the noteworthy upcoming trends according to the designer’s vision. Contrast through texture is left aside, instead giving preference to subtle prints and stripes. As far as accessories go, there were necklaces, cute hair accessories, as well as leather clutches, studded with the Westwood emblem.
At the end of the show, things got a little bit dressier with evening choices, such as molten silver and gold mini dresses, strapless and one shoulder dresses, but also monochrome choices that seem to be the simplest, at the same time the most stress free alternatives suggested by the brand for the upcoming season. A red strapless gown with a bit of Scarlett O’Hara flounce on the bottom was the queen in this line. Generally interest was created through volume and layering, rather than too screamy elements.
With its unique approach and impressive designs, the Vivienne Westwood Red Label spring 2012 collection managed to conquer a well-deserved special place in the entire London Fashion Week!
